Edge server room for Moonen Packaging in Weert
Moonen Packaging has moved into a new 20.000 square meter warehouse in Weert. Packaging is not always associated with sustainability. Moonen Packaging takes the initiative to change this perspective. The Weert based wholesaler in packaging is adding more and more packaging manufactured from renewable resources. “It is our goal that in 2020, fifty percent of our customers’ orders consists of packaging made from renewable resources. This number has to increase to a hundred percent by 2030”, says Roland van Bussel, Chief Operating Officer at Moonen Packaging.
ICT could not be left behind in Moonen Packaging’s sustainability policy. Bart Hanssen, ICT Manager, was made responsible for this. Most of Moonen’s applications were therefore placed in the Cloud at the end of 2019, which had its advantages when Corona arrived in the Netherlands. A so called Edge server room was necessary for the connection with the Cloud. Edge = the point of connectivity between users and the Cloud. The area obviously needed to meet the network’s availability requirements. After various meetings were held and quotations were requested, All-Rack proved to be the best and most suitable partner.
A turnkey server room was built, whereby hot and cold areas are separated from each other. As a result, the discharge air temperature can be higher and the cooling units will work more efficiently. Cooling of hardware is achieved by two In-Row cooling units on Inverter basis who are redundant due to the high availability requirements. A UPS installation whereby the distributor on every rack is fitted with an A-feed and a B-feed. Fire detection via aspiration and gas extinguishers based on Inert gas. A sustainable server area with high availability.
